Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Announced: Sony’s First Android Device – Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android Mobile Cell Phone to T-Mobile and AT&T? Some might be worried because the first Xperia X1 also featured T-Mobile 3G bands, but it was never actually released by the carrier. Don’t fret, because one of our ninjas told us that Sony Ericsson is planning a big event soon in New York. Why would Sony Ericsson make an appearance in the United States to tout their new Android phone, unless they already have a carrier deal(s) worked out. This is more than a coincidence.

As expected, Sony Ericsson have lifted the lid on their next Xperia handset, by giving it an official unveiling today. Turns out that the handset will be known as the Xperia X10, not the X3 as previously thought.

As reported from Pocket-Lint, the Xperia will run on the Google Android operating system and will come equipped with version 1.6 of the software.

Specs include a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen, 8 megapixel camera with LED flash, plenty of multimedia options. HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and a 3.5mm headphone jack – something which should please Sony Ericsson fans.

We are also hearing that the X10 will feature an App called ‘Timescape’, which will be your communications app, giving you access to Facebook, Twitter, IM and SMS all in one easy-to-access location.

It is expected to be available in Q1 next year, with a list of regions including Japan and the US. Europe is expected to receive priority, but we’ll let you know once we hear more info on a solid release.

Expect hands-on photos of the Xperia X10 soon. Much more details over at Pocket-Lint.

This phone packs some serious power including:

The Xperia X10 will also feature some interesting software features like:

According to the press documents, the Xperia X10 will be available in select markets starting Q1 2010. Unfortunately the device was built for Android 1.6, but maybe Sony Ericsson can figure out Android 2.0 before the launch date.
